The Path Less Taken

Image
As many of you know, becoming a mother has been a really awesome challenge for me. I can't say it has been an easy experience by any means; but it was the beginning of something amazing! Though I endured pre-eclampia during the pregnancy, it was a renewing and strengthening experience. (Although I could have done without the hemorrhoids) πŸ˜‚ So now here I am a mother to a 14 months old and I am on this path that I feel is a lot like that poem by Robert Frost wrote about the Road Less Traveled. At least these days when most women want to achieve in their careers. There is a place for that, yes. I am not knocking having a career. But when God chose me to be a mother, He was appointing me to a specific calling. Becoming a mother is really a refining process. It is a lot of caring and nurturing a small person while enduring losing sleep, losing hair, and losing your mind. It can be overwhelming and make working outside the home seem a happy break from the chaos.  But, I have...

Facing Rejection as a Christian: Why It's a Good Thing

Image
You might be wondering, well, what does it  even  mean, to view being treated like a reject as a good thing? Some of you might be a bit confused by this title of this blog and thinking it doesn’t make sense, but bare with  me.  You’ll see by the end of this presentation that rejection actually helps you in the end more than it hurts you.  As an English major, I have to start by defining what rejection and being called a reject means.  Some similar words that come to mind:  LOSER, FAILURE, INCOMPETANT, REFUSED Declined Turned down dismissed spurned abandoned forsaken deserted Shut out  excluded shunned cold-shouldered blacklisted ignored snubbed brushed-off   On Facebook, I put  myself out there a lot. I do LIVE makeup tutorials  and my face and personality, with all its imperfections are broadcasted for others to see. I willingly choose to allow myself to be subject to all sorts of comments and critiques. Most of the comments are ve...

Bloom Where You Are Planted

Image
I've never really felt "rooted" to a certain place before I moved to Bradford, Pennsylvania. It's very much my home now and I feel confident this is where I'll spend the rest of my life.  God works in mysterious, wonderful ways. I spent a great deal of time feeling like a reject, that I needed to be somewhere else. I didn't feel as if I belonged to anyone or to anywhere. I didn't feel "free" to be myself and who God created me to be.  When I first moved here with my now husband, I was in awe of these glorious mountains. They are so beautiful and they make me feel safe and secure within its protection. But, the truth is-my help doesn't come from them. My help comes from God, who made the mountains! (Psalm 121:1-2) I see His beauty in the trees and in the trails my husband and I walk together. I tend to forget how blessed I am to be in such a mostly remote area of the country, (population: 8,194).  Even though I am far away from most of my fa...

Happy Book Lover's Day!: Strong Women in Literature

Image
We all have the one things that brings us joy. That one hobby that is bonded to our very hearts. For me, this was reading about strong female lead characters.            In my younger years, I was an avid reader. Instead of partying on the weekend, I was at the library           searching for a new and interesting "gift" for myself. I used to read at least two books a week. And indeed, this has been the gift that keeps on giving. I think it really changed my life for the better! But something happened. It has become more difficult to focus on, let alone finish a book. I don't know if this is due to the depression, the medication, or possibly because my vision continues to deteriorate. It's been really hard for me to remain consistent in my reading, though my love for it has never faded. You see, not only am I a journal-hoarder, but I'm also a book hoarder. My true passion is for the classics. My FAVORITE book is Jan...

Hi! I'm Sam! And I'm a Journal-Hoarder!

I'm 32 years old and I live with my adoring husband Alex and our two cats! Things aren't so easy-but God is greater! I want to use this blog to share my experiences with you and hopefully grow further in my walk with Jesus Christ. I also want to help people feel more comfortable about being authentic and even vulnerable in their writing. Yes, I'm a journal hoarder. And by that, I mean that I have tons and tons of cute little journals with inspirational sayings on them that I've started, but never finished. While some may find that quirky, I'm making it my mission to write more and actually finish what I start! Have you ever had trouble keeping a journal? Have you ever felt that if you started a journal, you might not finish it? Too scared to write what you're really feeling? I have too. In fact, I have had the traumatic experience of my mother actually reading my journal......which was composed of all the boys I liked in college and my list of the ...
